Adding shows

Hi everybody.

I just implemented a quick and easy tool to add shows to the site. If you click the 'shows' button in the main navigation, and the page is loaded, you'll see a button in the right corner saying 'add a show'. Here you can type the name of the show and hit search. It will look into an outside database for shows with that name. It will then display the list and you can click on the right show you want to add. After you've clicked the show we will try to add it. If the show already exists in our database, we will give you a message with a link to that show.

The schedule (you see on the home page for example) is updated with only US based shows. If you try to add a show from a country other then the US, it will work. But the episodes will not show up in your countdown, schedule or calendar. I think it is possible to fix this, but that is rather difficult. I also haven't got the time right now to implement this feature.

Browsing!

Wow, it has been a while since I updated this blog. It also has been a while since I made some updates on the site.

In this update I made it possible to browse search links that you can add. I hope by now you understand what I mean by "search links". If not, I will try to explain it quickly.
Lets say that you stream your favorite episodes on different sites. When an episode is released, you don't want to search for this one on all the different stream sites. To solve this problem you add sites to your eptracker-account. This way, when an episode is released, you click the different links on the eptracker home page and you will be redirected to the different search sites.

At first you could only manually add the search sites. Now I've made it possible to browse all other sites that other users are using. Maybe one user is using a site which is very interesting for you to use, you'll never know...

I think it is very difficult to explain the concept of search links. I hope you guys understand, and if you don't, let me know and I will try to explain some more.

Progress

Hey guys,

I've just launched a new page. You can find it under the progress button in the menu. This page was previously known as the Watchlist. But since we have progress bars this title fits it a bit more.

The basic idea is that you see your favorite shows, and for each of them, the episode that you have to watch. If you click the button "I've seen this episode" the next episode is loaded and the progress bar is updated.

If you click on the overview button (or the showname or image) you will get an overview of all the seasons and episodes. Here you can mark the episodes you've seen very easilly.

Finally you have an option to hide the show from the list. You can do this with shows that are canceled/ended or with shows that you don't really want to follow on this specific level.

Site launched!

Hey guys,

Just a few minutes ago I deleted the construction page so you are now able to access the site. I hope you like it. I put in a lot of work to get to this point.

If you had an account on the old site, it has been converted to the new one. All your shows and links are still available.

And if you are new, please register and add some shows. Then add some sites where you like to go for information/streaming/downloading. The homepage will tell you all the good stuff. Which episodes released this day and it will provide you with the links to the other websites.

Contributing to the site is possible now. I've made a feature so that you can upload the title card of a show (if we haven't got one already). This wasn't working on the old site, unfortunately. If you hover over a "no-picture" image, an upload button will appear. Click this and you're able to upload.

I'm working on remaking the watchlist page. I don't know if this feature was used a lot but my intentions are to bring it back.

Maybe you'll find a problem on the site. Something that isn't working or doing what it supposed to do. You can report it over here.

A new site is launching soon!

Hey guys, it's been a long time ago when I let you know what is going on. Hopefully there are some people who haven't forgotten me...

I've started making a new version of the site last year. It has taken me a long time. I had to code the whole site from scratch because I decided to build it on a framework. The result paid off, especially for the back-end of the site. The front-end has a brand new design. On this blog you can see a few things the new design will have. For example: the logo, the colors and the background image.

The main reason to make a new site was that I wanted to make the site easier to use and a bit more organized. Also I just really like making websites from time-to-time. The fun part is making the design and coding a lot of great stuff. The problem begins with finishing the site. That takes a long time and is a bit boring.

The new site will bring you a blog-style overview of the episodes that aired the previous day. You can select your favorite shows, just like on the old site. It will also feature the "links to other search sites" as you may remember from the old site. These are links to, for example, google. When you click on it, it will take you directly to the google search engine and perform a search for the selected episode. This is really nice for stream sites like hulu or netflix. You see that an episode has aired, you click on the link, and you can stream it without searching yourself. We will provide a few links. With an account you can edit them or create new ones.

The new site will launch this month. When exactly, i'm not sure. I'll have to update the database, edit a few pages and perform some bug tests. So check back soon and I'll keep you updated!

Btw: the watchlist we had on the old site, will be absent when we launch. I am making a new version of that page but it is taking a little bit longer as expected.
